Cuban Woman in California Shocked by Store Encounter: "This Scares Me Because I Lived Through This in Cuba"

Friday, September 27, 2024 by Mia Dominguez

A Cuban woman residing in California took to her TikTok profile (@yarys6) to share a video recounting an unsettling experience she had in a store, sparking hundreds of reactions on the social media platform. In her post, she discusses how she stumbled upon a magazine featuring Donald Trump on the cover during a visit to a regularly frequented store. This caught her attention because, as she noted, "you don't see anything like this here," alluding to her residence in a predominantly Democratic state.

Curious about the content, she began flipping through the magazine. When she inquired about its price, the clerk, surprised, asked, "And you want to read that?" The woman, taken aback by the reaction, affirmed her interest. The employee responded, "Oh my god! This man is very crazy." Choosing not to engage in a debate, the Cuban woman shared her perspective, stating, "we were much better off before than we are now."

Reflections on California's Current State

Throughout the video, the Cuban woman reflects on her feelings about certain policies in California, also expressing her concerns about the high cost of living. "I've seen posts about California right now, showing a room with four bunk beds where each bed is being rented out," she explains. "We're at a point where people tell you what you should read and question your political preferences. We're losing our minds. This scares me because I've lived through this before. I was already told how to think, what to say, and how to live my life. Buckle up," she concludes, recalling her life in Cuba.

Public Reaction and Shared Concerns

In the comments, several users echoed sentiments similar to those of @yarys6. Remarks included, "Exactly. We can't allow this. We already lived through it in Cuba," and "I'm Venezuelan in California. It's terrible what we're experiencing in this state." Others shared, "I ran away from places where they told me how to think, which is why I love Florida," and "That's right, and they don't realize that communism is knocking on this country's door."

Through her video, this Cuban woman voices her unease about the current situation, drawing parallels to her past experiences and resonating with others who feel similarly.
