Passenger Train Derails in Matanzas

A local passenger train consisting of three cars derailed on Friday afternoon, causing a halt in traffic on the Central Line. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and all passengers were safely evacuated from the scene.

Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, the Minister of Transportation, shared details on Facebook that were provided by the general director of the Union of Railways of Cuba. According to the information, the incident occurred at 5:15 PM when Train Extra 107, engine 38209, traveling towards the municipality of Los Arabos, derailed at kilometer 149.2 between Quintana and Jovellanos stations.

Upon learning of the derailment, senior railway officials from the region and the Union of Railways of Cuba (UFC), along with representatives from the Railway Transport Administration (ATF), Party and Government authorities, and members of the Police and other Ministry of the Interior organs, promptly arrived at the scene.

Efforts to Restore Train Traffic

The statement indicated that train traffic on the Central Line remains disrupted in the affected segment. Efforts are underway to address the issue and restore train operations as quickly as possible.

An investigation into the cause of the derailment is currently ongoing.
