Five Turkish nationals and one Cuban continue to be hospitalized with varying burn prognoses at the "Hermanos Ameijeiras" Clinical-Surgical Hospital and the "General Calixto García" University Hospital, both located in Havana.
In an update provided by Dr. Fernando Trujillo Sánchez, National Director of Hospital Services at the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap), to official journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso, it was revealed that the five Turkish individuals are being treated at "Hermanos Ameijeiras." According to the reports, two are in extremely critical condition, one is critically ill, and two have minor injuries and are "clinically stable at the moment," as noted by Alonso on Facebook.
He also mentioned that initially, two Cubans were admitted to "Calixto García," but one has been discharged. The remaining Cuban patient has no complications and is "showing favorable progress."
Constant Monitoring and Multidisciplinary Care
Alonso confirmed that all necessary conditions for patient care are in place, and a multidisciplinary team of specialists is providing continuous monitoring based on the injuries sustained.
The fire that injured these individuals occurred last Thursday morning during welding work on a barge located in Havana Bay. Vicente de la O Levy, the Minister of Energy and Mines, reported on the social network X that the fire was quickly brought under control and that the injured workers were receiving medical care.
Later, the Cuban government, through its media outlets, reported the incident, noting that it took place on the KPS 57 barge, which contributes 15 MW to the national electrical system (SEN).
