A young man lost his life and his brother is in critical condition after a car collided with their horse-drawn carriage in Santiago de Cuba early Sunday morning.

The tragic incident took place around 3:50 AM when a vehicle belonging to the Attorney General's Office (FGR) rear-ended the horse-drawn carriage in the Santa Teresa neighborhood of El Caney, according to reporter Yosmany Mayeta Labrada.

One of the carriage drivers died instantly at the scene, while his brother was rushed to the Juan Bruno Zayas Clinical-Surgical Hospital with severe injuries. Family sources have confirmed that he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the car, a Hyundai with license plate number B 030 353, also sustained injuries in the accident.

The violent collision resulted in almost total destruction of the carriage, and the car itself suffered significant damage after rolling over several times on the pavement. Eyewitnesses reported that the car was speeding when it struck the carriage in the early hours of the morning.

"The car flipped completely after rear-ending the brothers in the carriage," Mayeta noted in his report.
