Desperate Cuban Mother in Miami Pleads for a Job: "I've Knocked on Every Door"

Sunday, September 29, 2024 by Elizabeth Alvarado

Diairys Lorente, a Cuban mother residing in Miami, finds herself in a state of desperation. She lost her job four months ago and, despite her persistent efforts, has been unable to secure new employment.

Living alone with her young daughter in Tamiami, a neighborhood in Miami-Dade, Diairys explains that she lost her home health aide position due to an unjust situation. "I've knocked on every door, and I can't even count how much weight I've lost from the stress and worry. They're about to take my car away. I've cried to people for a job so I don't end up on the streets with my daughter. There's no work," she expressed tearfully.

A Mother's Worst Fear

"My biggest fear is ending up homeless with my daughter. What's happening in Miami is terrifying. I have no money left to pay for anything, and I have no idea what I'm going to do," she added.

Diairys maintains her faith in God, praying daily for relief. "I try to hide the reality from my little girl, but I think she's starting to notice because I'm falling apart. I just don't know how much longer I can hold on," she confessed.

Community Support and Suggestions

Thousands have reached out, offering advice and showing solidarity. Among the suggestions was to contact TikTok influencer Dairon Cano, who has gained popularity for helping fellow Cubans facing tough times in Miami. Others encouraged her to keep fighting and reassured her that God wouldn't abandon her. Some even advised her to leave Miami and Florida as soon as she had the means.

Many people asked for her Zelle number to send financial assistance.
