Venezuelan in Homestead Advises Moving North Before Settling in Florida: "It's Not What People Think"

Tuesday, October 1, 2024 by Claire Jimenez

A young Venezuelan woman residing in Homestead, Florida, shared her living experience in a video posted on her TikTok profile (@yettsa.fajas), revealing the rental costs in her area. "We live in South Florida, in a city called Homestead. These are the homes we live in, and it costs $3,000 per month here. When you live elsewhere, you think people here are rolling in money, but that's a lie," she stated, warning her followers about the high cost of living in this region.

"People are just trying to survive; that's why they don't stop and work, work, work... because everything is very expensive," she explained. While Homestead is more affordable than Miami, she noted that living there still poses a significant economic challenge. Yettsa pointed out that many people prefer living in Florida due to its warm climate, avoiding the cold northern parts of the country. "The United States is not what people think before they arrive. When you get here, you realize you work to pay bills, not to live. You think it's a lie until you get here and experience it," she said.

She also offered a piece of advice for those planning to move to the United States: "This is not a city to start in. You should go to Georgia or North or South Carolina to establish yourself and then come down here." The video has sparked a debate among those who share the difficulties of living in the United States and those looking for more affordable alternatives in other parts of the country.

Community Reactions Highlight Varied Challenges

Users reacted with a mix of agreement and concern: "That's why many people move to trailer homes, where rent averages $1,000. It's a risk, but it's the only way to save when starting out," said one user. "It's the cheapest option because if you move to Brickell, you won't survive," another commented. "I live in South Carolina, and it's no longer affordable. Everything has changed! I've been in this country for years, and it's no longer economical," shared another individual.

Others echoed similar sentiments about the rising costs in Florida: "Everything in Florida has gone up, in all counties. I live in Clermont, Florida, and rent is high," one user mentioned. "And yet, those of us living in Homestead find it more economical, although you have to be careful; there are many dangerous places here," another added. "Finally, someone speaks the truth," concluded one commenter.
