Two Cuban nationals were taken into custody this Saturday, charged with fatally stabbing a young man during an alleged altercation in a mobile home community in western Miami-Dade County, authorities reported. The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) announced on Monday the arrest of Heriberto Germán Toledo Pérez, 57, and Eduan Salmón, 36, at 14601 NW 185 St. Both individuals are of Cuban nationality, according to police records shown by Telemundo51.
The two men were identified as the suspected killers of 30-year-old Richie Chavarrías early Saturday morning in a mobile home community east of Krome Avenue and the Everglades wildlife conservation area, reported Local10 News. Chavarrías suffered three severe stab wounds to the upper body. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel airlifted him to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he later succumbed to his serious injuries.
A witness informed the MDPD Homicide Bureau that the stabbing happened as he and two others were walking past Toledo's property. According to his statement, documented in the arrest report, Salmón emerged from the closed residence and shouted at the group, threatening to "screw them up" while brandishing a kitchen knife. Shortly after, Toledo came out and stabbed Chavarrías in the back. The young man fell to the ground, and both suspects retreated into the residence.
Another witness told officers that he saw Salmón and Toledo washing a bloodied knife in a sink following the attack. After their arrests and separate interrogations, the suspects gave conflicting accounts of the events. Toledo claimed he had been drinking beer with Salmón since 1 p.m. on Friday and at one point found him lying outside the residence and helped him in, but denied any involvement in a physical altercation.
However, Salmón's version differed. He stated that he started drinking with Toledo around 5 p.m. and was in the yard with his eyes closed when a group of unknown individuals, including Chavarrías, attacked him. He claimed he pulled a kitchen knife from his pocket for self-defense, but the individuals fled before he could harm any of them. According to his official statement, he then went inside and informed Toledo about the incident.
As they were being arrested at the residence, a witness approached the suspects and, pointing at Toledo, declared, "He is the one who stabbed my friend," according to the police report cited by Local10 News. Both men were formally charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. They appeared in court on Sunday, where a judge ordered them to be held without bail.
According to Miami-Dade County police records, Salmón has a lengthy criminal history, including recent arrests for multiple offenses such as assault, resisting arrest, reckless operation of a vessel, theft, and driving with a revoked license.
