The Cuban journalist Javier Díaz announced on his social media this Monday that starting October 6, he will replace Mario Vallejo as the weekend news anchor at Univision 23 Miami, following several years of Vallejo's tenure. Díaz revealed on Facebook that Vallejo "will now anchor the prime-time news at 11:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday," while Díaz will take on the Sunday news broadcasts at 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., in addition to working as a reporter from Monday to Thursday at the network.

"This is both a significant professional opportunity and a challenge," Díaz stated in his message, emphasizing the responsibility that comes with informing the community and viewers who have been following Vallejo. He expressed gratitude to Televisa Univision for their trust, as well as to his colleagues, social media followers, and especially his family, who have supported him "through thick and thin."

Embracing His Cuban Roots

Reflecting on his heritage, Díaz encouraged others to pursue their dreams: "Here stands another Cuban who left the island with a backpack full of dreams. Work hard and fight for your goals; living in freedom makes anything possible."

Celebrating Democratic Participation

Last August, Díaz shared his deep excitement about voting for the first time in a democratic election, a right he never experienced while living in Cuba. He expressed his enthusiasm on Facebook about participating in Miami's local elections, highlighting the importance of this democratic act.

Additionally, Díaz has used his social media platforms to support his fellow Cubans making their way in Florida and to condemn the crimes of the regime in Cuba.
