Cuban outfielder Yoisnel Camejo has chosen not to return to Cuba after participating in the Barcelona Baseball Cup, where he played as a member of the "Cocodrilos" de Matanzas team.
The news, initially reported by the specialized media outlet Cuba Grand Slam on Tuesday, was later confirmed by Swing Completo through sources close to the player. Both publications revealed that Camejo did not board the return flight to Cuba.
Having been an integral part of the "Cocodrilos" de Matanzas, Camejo has played in six editions of the Cuban National Series. In the most recent season, he stood out with an impressive .329 batting average over 50 games, racking up 31 hits, including two home runs and five triples.
Matanzas' Disappointing Performance in Barcelona
The Matanzas team had an underwhelming run in the Barcelona Baseball Cup, being eliminated before the finals with only one victory in three games. Following this disappointing performance, Camejo made the decision to stay in Spain, adding to the growing list of Cuban athletes who frequently defect during international competitions.
