Friday, October 4, 2024 by Samantha Mendoza

Cuban reggaeton artist Yomil marked the Day of Orula by reaching out for a divine intervention for his friend, El Taiger, who is in a critical condition at a Miami hospital after being shot in the head. Yomil took to Instagram to convey his plea, stating, "On this sacred day celebrating Orula, I believe many priests in this beautiful religion will join me in asking for a miracle for a friend in a dire situation, granting him the strength to overcome this challenging time."

El Taiger is currently battling for his life at Jackson Memorial Hospital, a victim of an attempted homicide in Miami. His manager, Marcel Reinosa, has confirmed that the artist remains in critical condition, relying on life support. Despite the gravity of the situation, El Taiger's friends and fans continue to hold onto hope for his recovery, while police investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Yomil and El Taiger share a long-standing friendship, characterized by mutual achievements in their professional paths and a deep fraternal bond. Both are devoted followers of the Yoruba religion in Cuba, a faith that plays a significant role in their lives and the lives of many in their community.

Support from the Yoruba Community

Other Cuban artists who also practice the Yoruba faith have joined in prayers for El Taiger's recovery. Among them are Osmani García and Emilio Frías, director of the band El Niño y La Verdad. Frías expressed his hopes, saying, "May Olofin and Oluddumare extend their hands to give José Manuel Carbajal, El Taiger, another chance. Happy Day to all priests and children of Orula, ache ibboru."

The Significance of Orula

Orula is a revered deity within the Yoruba religion, often associated with Saint Francis of Assisi in Catholic syncretism. Celebrated on October 4th in Cuba, Orula is known as the orisha of divination. According to Yoruba tradition, Orunmila (Orula) was a silent witness to the creation of the universe by Oludumare (God), thus possessing the knowledge of the destiny of all things and beings.
