A Cuban man tragically lost his life in Santiago de Cuba after being hit by a vehicle in the village of El Socorro, located in the municipality of Songo La Maya. The incident occurred as he was attempting to board a passenger truck.

The report was first made public by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, who initially stated that the man had sustained severe injuries in the accident. However, it was later confirmed that he had passed away.

Details of the Tragic Incident

Early Friday, Mayeta shared details of the accident on his Facebook profile, explaining that the man was injured while climbing into the passenger truck. "As the gentleman was ascending the rear steps of the truck, he was struck by the car. It appeared the driver was distracted and made no attempt to stop, although the driver claimed the brakes failed," an anonymous source informed the journalist.

The injured man was transported to the Polyclinic of La Maya, suffering severe injuries from the waist down, leaving his chances of survival uncertain. Hours later, Mayeta confirmed the man's death, identifying him only by his nickname, “El Jabao,” without providing further details about the victim.

Aftermath and Unanswered Questions

As of the time this report was written, the status of the driver involved in the accident remains unknown.

In a related incident, on Thursday, October 3, another driver lost his life when his vehicle crashed into a side retaining wall on a road in Matanzas and caught fire. This accident happened around 5:30 p.m. on the Central Highway towards Perico, near the exit of the village Sergio González (commonly known as Tinguaro), in the municipality of Colón, as reported by the Provincial Government of Popular Power on Facebook.
