Cubans Gather by Barcelona Cathedral Lighting Candles for El Taiger's Recovery

Monday, October 7, 2024 by Joseph Morales

Supporters of El Taiger in Barcelona gathered on Sunday evening to pray for his recovery, as the reggaeton artist remains in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. The gathering began at 7:00 pm at the city's cathedral, located in the Pla de la Seu.

Participants lit candles and sang and danced to the Cuban musician's songs, who is highly popular among the "reparteros." This scene sparked a minor debate on social media, with many questioning the dance and music.

Responses varied. One Instagram user explained, "For those who don't understand why people are dancing: 1: He's alive after a gunshot to the head, very few survive that, 2: He's a singer, we must honor him with his music, 3: Because he's the pride of my country."

Another commenter added, "Don’t be mistaken, it's with joy that spirits can be lifted, not with sadness. So, no tears, no sorrow, this is all about prayer and sending him lots of positive energy. Remember, he's not dead, and these are the vibes he needs."

Global Support for El Taiger

Expressions of concern for El Taiger's health have been varied and widespread. On Saturday, vigils were held in Santiago de Cuba, Bayamo, Guantánamo, and Havana, according to various social media reports.
