Truck Veers Off Road on Sancti Spíritus Bridge

Monday, October 7, 2024 by Michael Hernandez

This past Sunday, a truck veered off the road on a bridge in Sancti Spíritus, ending up lodged in the median divider. The narrowness of the divider prevented the vehicle from plummeting into the void below. A member of the Facebook group 'Traffic Accidents in Cuba' reported, "In Sancti Spíritus. Highway after the Punta Diamante bridge. It seemed to be loaded with goods. I don't know if there are any injuries."

A video shared in the post depicted the truck off the pavement, positioned between the two lanes of the Central Highway. The truck's width apparently stopped it from falling onto the National Highway, which runs below the overpass.

Location and Context

Punta Diamante is a popular council and locality within the municipality of Cabaiguán in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba. The area is intersected by the central highway and a railway, lying just 1 km from the National Highway where the incident occurred.

Official Silence on the Incident

As of the writing of this report, neither authorities nor the local state-controlled media have addressed the incident. There is no confirmation regarding any injuries. Additionally, the claim by the Facebook user about the truck carrying goods remains unverified. The vehicle appears more suited for passenger transport rather than hauling merchandise. This story is under ongoing development.
