The esteemed Cuban actress, Diana Rosa Suárez, has reached out with a message from the Georgetown Public Hospital in Guyana's capital, where she is recovering following a heart attack last week. "With God's help and with Maruja... who's been incredibly supportive, staying by my side. I need to thank everyone for their concern, and I truly believe I'm going to overcome once more," the actress expressed from her hospital bed in a brief video shared by her close friend, journalist Julita Osendi.
On Saturday, September 28, Diana Rosa experienced severe chest pain while in Havana and was rushed to the Cardiology Institute hospital. Although advised to stay for treatment, she declined due to her impending flight to Guyana, as reported by Osendi days ago.
International Medical Support
In the South American nation, she is receiving care from both Cuban and Guyanese doctors. "The Cuban embassy has taken responsibility," Julita Osendi stated. The Cuban embassy released a note saying that Cuba's ambassador to Guyana, Jorge Francisco Soberón Luis, visited Diana Rosa and confirmed her positive spirits. They reported that the actress is stable and that the embassy will continue to monitor her progress closely.
While in Guyana, local doctors discovered that besides her recent heart attack, Diana Rosa had suffered another one approximately three months ago and have advised a month of complete rest.
Journey to Reunite with Family
Diana Rosa Suárez, famed for her roles like "The Fox's Bride" and other unforgettable characters, was in Guyana to attend an appointment at the U.S. embassy to apply for a visa, aiming to reunite with her grandchildren and nieces abroad.
On August 30, Diana Rosa celebrated her 80th birthday with a lavish party surrounded by fellow friends and colleagues, including Tahimí Alvariño, Paula Alí, Verónica Lynn, Néstor Jiménez, Mario Aguirre, Héctor Noas, Miriam Socarrás, and Gretel Cazón, along with host Marino Luzardo and singers Beatriz Márquez and Héctor Tellez.
