The National Weather Service (NWS) of Miami has issued a tornado warning for South Florida, effective until 9:00 p.m. this Wednesday. Positioned on the northeastern side of Hurricane Milton, there remains a significant tornado threat. "Ensure you have a reliable way to receive alerts!" stated the meteorological agency on X, alongside a map illustrating the expansive area potentially affected by tornadoes throughout the day.
A tornado watch signifies the possibility of a tornado, while a tornado warning indicates that a tornado is occurring or imminent, the NWS clarified. Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) also issued an alert regarding potential tornado activity in South Florida, highlighting the regions most at risk from this severe weather event.
Flooding and Winds: Additional Concerns
The NHC further released a map outlining areas in Central and South Florida that could face significant flood risks in the coming hours. In its intermediate advisory at 8:00 a.m. local time, the center warned of increasing winds along Florida's west coast this afternoon, urging residents to finalize preparations and evacuations as time is running out.
At 8 a.m., Hurricane Milton's eye was positioned approximately 120 miles west of Dry Tortugas and 405 km southwest of Tampa. The storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 155 mph. Milton has picked up speed, now moving northeast at 16 mph.
