Melanie Rodríguez, 20, is fighting for her life in a Florida hospital after the tragic incident on October 6 in Lehigh Acres, Lee County, which claimed the lives of four individuals.
Yanelys González Mendoza is pleading for a humanitarian visa to be with her daughter, who is alone in the U.S. with only a friend by her side, as medical staff provide limited information. "Please, anyone who can help me share this," appealed Yéssica Corrales, Melanie's cousin, on Facebook.
According to the Facebook page La Tijera, Melanie is in critical condition at the Gulf Coast Medical Center. Despite being alone, a kind-hearted individual has taken on the responsibility of maintaining communication with her mother and keeping her informed about Melanie's status at the hospital.
Desperate Plea for Community Support
Yanelys is reaching out to the Cuban community in the U.S., requesting prayers for her daughter while seeking help to secure a humanitarian visa to join her during this challenging time. Yanelys resides in Mantilla, a neighborhood in Arroyo Naranjo, Havana.
The accident that occurred last Sunday also resulted in the deaths of four other young people. Among them were Reysis Hernández and Mel Viera, natives of Bejucal, Mayabeque. Their families are seeking assistance for funeral expenses and have launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover the costs.
Details of the Tragic Accident
The accident took place as the group traveled westbound in a sedan on Lee Boulevard, east of Lee Street. The driver, a 23-year-old resident of Cape Coral, lost control of the vehicle on a curve, crossing the median and crashing head-on into an oncoming car. The driver and three passengers, including Reysis Hernández and Mel Viera, died at the scene.
According to La Tijera's post, the driver of the second vehicle, aged 53, and a 36-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries and were also transported to the Gulf Coast Medical Center. The collision caused the second car to strike the front left of a third vehicle.
