Cuban Television announced on Thursday the passing of José Manuel Carbajal Zaldívar, known in the music world as El Taiger, a renowned figure in the island's urban music scene. The announcement was made during the 1 PM news broadcast, based on a statement from the Cuban Institute of Music posted on their Facebook page.

At 37, El Taiger passed away in Miami, Florida, after suffering a severe gunshot wound to the head on October 3. The brain injury left him hospitalized for several days, during which doctors were unable to save his life.

A Musical Journey Cut Short

Known as "El Príncipe" during his tenure with the group Los 4, El Taiger embarked on his musical journey at the age of 17. He later formed the duo Los Desiguales and worked alongside internationally acclaimed artists such as Bryant Myers and J. Balvin. His solo career cemented his status as a key figure in reggaeton across both Cuba and the United States, particularly popular among young audiences, as noted in the social media message.

Community and Family Farewell

The Cuban Institute of Music extended its condolences to El Taiger's family and friends, highlighting his passion for his country and his contributions to the urban genre. In accordance with his family's wishes, his body will be cremated in the coming days.

During this period, various Cuban institutions monitored the situation closely. The Cuban Young Communist League (UJC) also expressed their sorrow on Facebook, posting a brief message: "Rest in peace, Cuban," following the news of the musician's death.
