A serious accident unfolded on Thursday night in Santiago de Cuba, resulting in a cyclist sustaining critical injuries after colliding with a Moskvitch under unknown circumstances. The incident was initially reported by journalist Yosmany Mayeta, who shared some photos of the scene online.

Later, Aris Arias Batalla, the Director of Operations and Relief at the MINSAP in the city, disclosed that the accident occurred at the intersection of Trocha Avenue and 8th Street, within the Mariana de la Torre neighborhood of Santiago de Cuba. The victim was identified as Luis Enrique Monier Martínez, a 43-year-old resident of the Veguita de Galo area, who was riding the bicycle that collided with the blue Moskvitch. The vehicle was driven by Alberto Martínez Garreta.

According to the official source, the injured cyclist was transported to the nearby Dr. Joaquín Duany Duarte military hospital, where he is listed in critical condition, with his life at risk. "Blood tests performed on the Moskvitch driver at the hospital revealed no alcohol presence. Specialists from the MININT's specialized center are conducting investigations to determine the cause of this unfortunate accident," Arias Batalla stated.
