The Iberia flight, designated as IB6621, traveling from Madrid to Havana, was compelled to return to its starting point after a technical malfunction, reportedly involving the engine.

The incident took place when the Airbus A330-202, with registration number EC-MOU, had been airborne for about an hour and forty minutes. It was cruising at an altitude of 28,000 feet and reaching a speed of 444 knots.

According to a passenger's account, whose brother was on board, the aircraft safely landed back in Madrid following its diversion. The aviation tracking site FlightRadar24 confirmed that the plane turned back shortly after it had flown over the coast of Portugal.

All passengers were safely on the ground with no injuries reported. This incident underscores the vital importance of aviation safety measures, allowing for a swift response to such situations.
