The television world mourns the loss of Mayra Gómez Kemp, a beloved Cuban host who became a staple of Spanish television for several decades. At the age of 76, Gómez Kemp passed away after a lifetime filled with professional and personal achievements. Her passing took place in Spain, where she resided. She had previously overcome tongue cancer but suffered a serious fall at home just days before her death, as reported by La Razón.

Legendary Host of "Un, dos, tres..."

Gómez Kemp is best remembered as the iconic host of the game show "Un, dos, tres...", a program that transformed Spanish television and endeared her to audiences. This week, she was rushed to a hospital in Málaga following a fall at her home in Mijas, where she had lived alone since the passing of her husband, actor Alberto Bercos, in 2019.

From Havana to Global Fame

Born on February 14, 1948, in Havana, Mayra hailed from a family of performers. Her father, Ramiro Gómez Kemp, and her mother, Velia Martínez, were both renowned figures in Cuban entertainment, nurturing her early entry into the arts, according to the same source. The family moved to Puerto Rico in 1960, later living in Venezuela and Miami before Mayra settled in Spain in the 1970s.

Career Highlights Beyond Hosting

In Spain, she began her acting career with roles in productions like the Spanish adaptation of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," where she played Magenta. Her career took a pivotal turn in 1976 when she joined "Un, dos, tres..." initially in specific roles, eventually becoming the main host and the face of one of the era’s most popular shows.

Beyond "Un, dos, tres...", Mayra expanded her career into music as part of the Trío Acuario, releasing several hit songs. She also hosted numerous other significant programs, including "625 líneas," "Ding-Dong," the 1980 Benidorm Festival, and the children's show "Sabadabada," among many others.
