A thief was apprehended at a fair held in the Playa municipality of Havana after stealing 93,000 pesos and other belongings from a vendor, as reported on social media. According to "El Cubano Fiel," a Facebook profile linked to the Ministry of the Interior, the incident took place at the park on 72 and 13 streets. The criminal took advantage of a moment of distraction to snatch the bag from a young woman who was carrying the day's earnings from one of the event's stalls.

Witnesses at the fair recounted how the thief, after seizing the bag containing money, a mobile phone, and personal documents, attempted a quick escape. However, the victim's cries for help prompted a swift response from the police officers stationed at the fair, leading to the capture of the perpetrator. Their prompt action enabled the full recovery of the stolen items, and the thief was taken into custody to face charges.

Recent Crime Wave in Havana

Just two weeks ago, the same profile reported another incident where a thief pushed a 72-year-old man to steal his phone. This incident took place on Primera Street, between 182 and 184, in the Alamar neighborhood of Havana del Este. The police were able to detain the suspect promptly.

In another case, five individuals—four men and one woman—were arrested in Arroyo Naranjo, Havana, for violently stealing an electric motorcycle from a 72-year-old woman. The profile detailed how the elderly woman, seemingly very active for her age, was at the La Palma taxi stand with her motorcycle when a young woman hired her for a ride to the Eléctrico neighborhood in the same municipality. Upon reaching the destination, four men, who were in cahoots with the passenger, ambushed her and stole the vehicle.
