A 25-year-old Cuban woman was tragically killed last Saturday afternoon in Kitty, Guyana, allegedly by her partner. The incident, currently under police investigation, took place in a house on Station Street. The victim has been identified as Yuni Zamora Castro, originally from the province of Las Tunas.
The alleged perpetrator, known only as "El Tío," is 60 years old and his nationality is disputed; some sources claim he is Venezuelan, while others say he is Cuban. Authorities received a call around 5:30 p.m. reporting a violent disturbance at the residence. Upon arrival, officers discovered Zamora Castro lying on the floor, showing signs of a violent attack. Anislaidy Díaz Leblanch, a close acquaintance of the victim, mentioned that Zamora Castro had recently expressed a desire to end her relationship with El Tío due to his possessive behavior, as reported by local outlet News Room. Díaz Leblanch, who witnessed the event and managed to escape, recounted that on the day of the incident, the couple returned home from work and sat on the terrace. El Tío gave Castro $1,000 to settle a small debt, and she informed him she would provide change later. The situation escalated rapidly, resulting in the young woman's death.

The Facebook page of Israel Santos Primary School in Las Tunas posted a tribute to Zamora Castro, noting her time as a teacher at the institution. The bodies of both individuals have been transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home as investigations proceed. The tragic event underscores the ongoing issues of domestic violence and its devastating consequences.
