On Tuesday, Cuba will experience an even more challenging situation in electricity generation due to the disconnection of the Cienfuegos power plant from the national grid. This situation is expected to result in increased power outages for the Cuban population.
The Cienfuegos Thermoelectric Plant was deliberately disconnected from the National Electric System at 10 PM on Monday, as reported by the Cuban Electric Union (UNE) on social media. The state-run company announced, "At 10:02 PM on Monday, October 14, the Cienfuegos Thermoelectric Plant exited the national electric system to carry out the planned and necessary maintenance on unit 4."
Despite the claim of "planned maintenance," the company, led by Alfredo López Valdés, only notified the public about the disconnection 15 hours after it occurred. Nonetheless, the UNE urges its customers to "stay informed through our official profile and the country's official communication channels about the progress of this crucial and unavoidable process." This is an ongoing story.
