A Cuban resident from southwest Miami-Dade is facing charges after allegedly threatening his family with a firearm during a domestic conflict. The individual in question, identified as Yasmany Rodríguez, 37, shares his home with his girlfriend, their 14-year-old daughter, and their 2-year-old son near the 200th Street block in Goulds.
The incident reportedly took place on October 6 at around 7:00 p.m. local time, according to local media reports released on Monday. The altercation began as a verbal dispute between the couple, which escalated when Rodríguez, in a fit of rage, threw religious relics at his girlfriend and then pointed a gun at her in an attempt to intimidate her.
According to the girlfriend's account, Rodríguez demanded the location of the ammunition for his weapon and subsequently retrieved the magazine. Authorities indicated that Rodríguez allegedly threatened to shoot everyone in the house while aiming the gun at his girlfriend, though he did not pull the trigger. Thankfully, no one was harmed during the confrontation.
Police arrived at the scene, but Rodríguez had already fled before they could apprehend him. The girlfriend's teenage daughter, who was at home during the incident, confirmed to the police that she overheard the argument.
Manhunt and Arrest
Nearly a week later, at approximately 12:08 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, Miami-Dade police located Rodríguez at a residence near 200th Street in southwest Miami-Dade. He was taken into custody and brought to the Miami-Dade Police Department's South District station for questioning.
During the interrogation, Rodríguez waived his right to legal counsel and denied all allegations. Despite his denial, jail records indicate that Rodríguez is facing three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of child abuse without causing great bodily harm.
The police did not disclose the reason for the couple's argument that led to the altercation. Following his court appearance, Rodríguez was assigned a bail amount of $15,000. As of the latest update, he is no longer listed in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center's records.
