A Cuban police officer successfully retrieved a suitcase that had been left behind in Terminal 3 of Havana's José Martí International Airport and returned it to its rightful owner.

According to "El Cubano Fiel," a Facebook page associated with the Ministry of the Interior, Officer Ernesto discovered the forgotten luggage on a baggage cart while on duty. After following the proper procedures, he handed it over to the PNR unit at the airport.

“Thanks to the documents inside the suitcase, the legitimate owner was contacted and expressed gratitude for the officer's swift and efficient action,” the post added.

Frequent Incidents of Lost Belongings

Incidents involving lost items are common at this busy airport. In the excitement of reuniting with family, some travelers tend to forget their bags.

In September 2023, Cuban authorities returned thousands of dollars and euros to an Italian tourist who had left his backpack on a luggage cart. Earlier that year, Cuban police recovered a backpack containing nearly $1,000 and over 500 euros belonging to an American citizen. Similarly, in May, an officer retrieved two bags worth over $3,000 along with various belongings, which he returned to their respective owners.
