Flor de Cuba Seeks Refuge from Blackouts in Havana Hotel: "Protecting My Family"

Monday, October 21, 2024 by Michael Hernandez

Amid the severe energy crisis plunging Cubans into widespread blackouts, Flor de Cuba found a temporary escape with her children at the Hotel Gran Aston La Habana. This hotel stands as one of the few places in the country currently with a reliable power supply. "Protecting my own because no one else will," the Cuban influencer expressed alongside a promotional video on Instagram showcasing the hotel.

Flor de Cuba highlighted the warm welcome she received, complete with a non-alcoholic cocktail, and shared glimpses of her room overlooking the Malecón, the restaurant, gym, pool, and other amenities. "Being able to protect, provide, and shield them from the surrounding chaos fills me with pride and satisfaction. I achieve this honorably, without harming or deceiving anyone," she remarked in the video, emphasizing her commitment to her children.

The video did not go unnoticed by her followers, who criticized her for posting such content during the nation's dire circumstances. Comments ranged from, "There's electricity there, but not everyone has your connections. While food spoils in the heat, you use your platform to promote a hotel as if people could afford it. What nerve!" to, "Did they give you a candle for the blackouts?" and "Shame on you for making this video during such a difficult time in our history." Others expressed, "Promoting your business is one thing, but promoting a hotel tied to the regime is another," and "It takes a lack of awareness to promote hotels while the country suffers, you’ve got more nerve than Grajales."

The influencer did not shy away from addressing these criticisms, responding: "If I were living it up on a yacht in Miami, no one would be offended. What bothers people is that I'm doing it in Cuba. You claim communism is about eliminating class differences. You are the real communists, and this mentality is why it will take a long time for Cuba to change. The mindset of wanting everyone to suffer equally must change first."
