Tuesday, October 22, 2024 by Alexander Flores

A Cuban woman has delivered a powerful message to President Miguel Díaz-Canel via her TikTok account, @mirelvisvila401, directly blaming him for the dire situation the country is facing. Her video, which has gone viral on the platform, was recorded amidst Cuba's ongoing energy crisis and captures her frustration and anger over the living conditions on the island and the government's lack of solutions.

Visibly upset, the woman explained her inability to communicate with her daughter, who resides on the island, for several hours due to the frequent power outages plaguing the nation. In her message, she harshly criticized the leader: "You've spent your time in power repressing us, depriving us of basic necessities like food and electricity. Essentials that every human in the world should have," she remarked, highlighting the daily struggles faced by the Cuban people.

Additionally, she accused Díaz-Canel of being a "sticker" or "puppet," labeling him as a "decorative figure" who has failed to use remittance funds to improve citizens' conditions. The woman also mentioned the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MiPymes), suggesting they are merely facades because "everyone knows they belong to you and the Castros."

Where is the Money Going?

She questioned the allocation of resources, particularly referring to the essential infrastructure like power plants that frequently leave people without electricity, asking, "Where is the money going?"

In a tone of desperation, she urged Díaz-Canel to step aside and allow someone else to take control of the nation: "Step down, let someone who can lift the country out of the misery you've created take charge," she declared in the video.

The woman's candid and straightforward message reflects the growing discontent within Cuban society amid the island's economic, social, and energy crisis. Her post has sparked significant reactions on social media, with many users expressing solidarity with her sentiments and sharing the video as a sign of support.
