On Wednesday night, a Nissan truck collided with an electricity pole in the Diez de Octubre district of Havana, resulting in injuries to multiple individuals. The accident took place specifically at the intersection of Úrsula and Destrampes in the Sevillano neighborhood.

The impact was reportedly so severe that the pole snapped in half, and the truck was left partially overturned on the street. This information comes from photos shared in the Facebook group "Car Accidents in Cuba." The pictures revealed that the truck—sturdy and green—bore a K license plate, which is typically used by foreign enterprises in Cuba.

The exact number and condition of those injured have not been disclosed. The only detail available is that they were "taken to the hospital," according to the source. The incident left local residents without power due to the damaged electricity pole.

Speculation and Recent Incidents

As of the latest updates, the circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear. However, some online commentators speculated that excessive speed might have been a contributing factor, given the unlikelihood of mechanical failure in such a vehicle.

In a separate incident, a motorcyclist lost their life in a collision with a bus on Wednesday in Santa Cruz del Norte, located in Mayabeque province.

Official Reports on Traffic Accidents

Despite public perception of a rise in traffic accidents in recent months, Cuban authorities reported a decrease earlier this year. As of July, they noted 543 fewer incidents in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year. During the state-run television program "Mesa Redonda," Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Traffic Body of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), stated that there were 81 fewer fatalities (a 23% reduction) and a decrease of 151 injured individuals (5%) from January to June compared to the same timeframe in 2023.
