The community of Luyanó in Havana recently honored the memory of Andy Méndez Portas, a 33-year-old motorcyclist whose untimely death has left a deep impact on those who knew him. The cause of his death, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, has not yet been disclosed, leaving his family, friends, and neighbors in a state of shock.

Social media platforms were flooded with heartfelt tributes, where numerous photos and messages celebrated Andy’s vibrant passion for motorcycles, his cheerful personality, and the positive influence he had on everyone around him. To those who knew him, Andy was more than just a motor enthusiast; he was a devoted son, a loving father, and a steadfast friend, admired for his many virtues within the community.

A Community United in Grief

Close friend Jesús Vicente Díaz Castelvi expressed his sorrow in a moving Facebook post: "Today I learned something my mind refuses to accept, but my heart feels it so profoundly it hurts to even think about. Knowing you're no longer with us, my brother, has left a void in Luyanó that is unimaginable. A good son, friend, father, partner, and brother. An endless stream of memories floods me, and I can't explain how much I'm struggling."

As a part of the homage, Díaz Castelvi shared images of a symbolic event that brought together dozens of motorcyclists in a procession. The ride included stops at places significant to Andy's life, where participants paid their respects with flowers, candles, and gestures of love. The roar of the engines became a symbolic farewell, turning the event into a testament of community solidarity and unity.

Remembering a Cherished Friend

In another post, Díaz Castelvi continued with an emotional message: "Beautiful and wonderful memories of you keep coming to my mind, keeping me awake whenever I close my eyes."

Another user, Rafael Rodríguez Fontanet, also shared a touching tribute: "Tribute to Andy Méndez Portas, our great and courageous friend, companion, brother, almost like family, whose spirit will forever be planted in our hearts. The Cocuyo Team will always keep you in their hearts, brother, you'll be welcomed up there as what you are: a king."

In a related incident this Wednesday, another motorcyclist lost his life in the municipality of Santa Cruz del Norte, in Mayabeque. The deceased was identified as “Yunieski,” described by one user as “a great guy from an excellent family.”
