Stunning Footage Reveals Homes Buried by Mudslide in Imías

Friday, October 25, 2024 by Emily Vargas

Circulating on social media is a dramatic video showcasing several homes in the municipality of Imías, Guantánamo, completely buried under a landslide triggered by torrential rains from Hurricane Oscar. This devastating event struck the area on October 20th. Despite the regime's claims that the hurricane resulted in only seven casualties in the neighboring municipality of San Antonio del Sur, the footage shared on TikTok by user "Alicia Alonso" raises serious doubts about the official narrative. The video reveals homes entirely submerged in mud with no rescue teams in sight.

A local resident captured images of scattered belongings and a house partially buried, with only a section of the roof visible. Additionally, a bridge that previously connected the area lies in ruins, swept away by the unprecedented floods caused by the storm. Both Imías and San Antonio del Sur experienced complete isolation until Thursday, after all terrestrial access routes were obliterated.

Humanitarian Crisis in the Aftermath

The aftermath in both municipalities has been dire, with residents facing a severe humanitarian crisis. There is a lack of essential services such as water, electricity, and food. The situation underscores the vulnerability of the region's infrastructure and the regime's inadequate response to natural disasters, leaving communities struggling to cope with the devastation.
