A TikTok video recently highlighted the staggering cost of basic groceries in Cuba, where the soaring prices are making it increasingly difficult for residents to meet their nutritional needs. The video, posted by user @jesusdecuba, breaks down the expenses incurred for essential items.

The shopper explained that he paid a hefty 3,100 pesos for 10 pounds of chicken. Additionally, a single bottle of oil set him back 900 pesos. He went on to say that a can of tomato puree was priced at 550 pesos, sugar at 750 pesos, and charcoal at 2,000 pesos, bringing the total expenditure to 7,300 pesos.

Despite spending such a significant amount, the Cuban emphasized that his shopping was incomplete. He was unable to purchase rice and beans, staples in the Cuban diet. "Guess how much I spent on these few items. And I couldn't even get rice and beans, it's just too much," he lamented in the video description, expressing his frustration with the exorbitant prices and the economic challenges facing the Cuban people.

This type of content is becoming increasingly common on platforms like TikTok, where residents share their daily struggles and the difficulties of securing basic necessities. These videos underscore a reality plagued by inflation and scarcity in Cuba.

The video has sparked numerous reactions from viewers, who have expressed solidarity and concern over the relentless price hikes on the island amid a severe economic crisis. Comments such as "How tough," "So sad what's happening in Cuba," and "It pains me to see what people on the island are going through" reflect the widespread empathy and worry among the online community.
