Would You Stay in a Capsule Hotel for a Budget-Friendly Night in Miami?

Saturday, October 26, 2024 by Amelia Soto

Capsule hotels, a trend originating in Japan and spreading across global cities, have made their way to Miami. These unique accommodations, designed to maximize space and offer an affordable lodging option, have captured the interest of both tourists and locals. However, not everyone is convinced of their practicality.

The Instagram account Only in Dade, well-known for its posts about life in Miami, recently showcased footage captured by a British tourist, displaying his reactions to this novel "capsule hotel" in the city. This sparked mixed reactions among online followers. The capsules offer just enough room for a bed, providing a degree of privacy. They are perfect for those seeking a simple and cost-effective stay, especially for individuals who spend little time indoors because they love exploring urban environments.

Typically, these capsules are arranged in rows and stacked on top of each other, taking up minimal space. Guests also have access to communal areas such as shared bathrooms and showers, a feature that may not appeal to every kind of traveler. Some people describe it as a 'unique' experience in Miami but caution that it's not suitable for those with claustrophobia. Everything operates on electricity and is generally considered very safe.

The tourist who filmed the video reported paying $34 per night, a bargain compared to the average hotel rates in the city. However, social media comments reflect more skepticism than excitement. Some joked they would rather spend the night at the airport or even in their cars than in a capsule.

Others point out that such accommodations are "clean and secure" in cities like Tokyo, but doubt whether the Miami version can offer the same peace of mind. Concerns about safety and hygiene are among the most frequently raised issues by users online. In a humorous tone, one comment warned, "In Miami, you might lose a kidney."

It's too soon to determine whether these capsule hotels will find success in the Sunshine City, but they have already managed to divide opinions and capture attention. Would you dare to sleep in a capsule in Miami, or do you prefer the comfort of a traditional hotel?
