Renowned Cuban comedian Limay Blanco has expressed his sorrow over the alleged violent death of a fan and impersonator from Ciego de Ávila. The young man, whose striking resemblance to Limay had astonished the comedian himself back in 2021, reportedly lost his life during a confrontation last Friday.
"Brother, I just found out. May God rest your soul. My condolences to your family and friends," Limay shared on his social media, along with a photo of his impersonator. The comedian did not specify the circumstances or the exact date of the young man's purported death, and the identity of the deceased has not been disclosed.
Questions Surrounding the Incident
When queried by his followers, Limay responded, "I was told he was killed. I believe he was mistaken for someone else during a fight. He was from Ciego de Ávila." Upon learning of the existence of his impersonator, Limay had humorously remarked in September 2021, "I have a long-lost son in some province."
Moved by the uncanny likeness, Limay had shared a brief video on social media featuring the young man telling a story in Limay's comedic style. As of now, further details about the incident involving Limay's imitator remain unknown.
Rising Violence in Cuba
The surge in violence and crime in Cuba has been a growing concern, despite attempts by authorities to downplay the issue and attribute it to alarmist social media messages. This troubling trend has prompted Limay to speak out on several occasions.
In August, he took to social media to highlight the increasing theft and lawlessness in the country following an incident where a friend's mobile phone was stolen. "A friend of mine had his phone snatched on the bus. They slashed his backpack with a blade; he lost all his photos, contacts, and cherished videos," Limay recounted, sharing an image of the cut made in the victim's backpack.
Personal Experiences with Crime
In mid-January, Limay broadcasted a suspicious encounter he had late at night while driving near Alamar in Havana's East Municipality with his wife. As he drove, listening to music, he noticed a man lying by the roadside, raising his hand as if seeking help. Fearing it might be a trap—such tactics are notorious on Cuban roads—Limay chose not to stop.
After experiencing a third burglary at his home in July 2023, Limay identified the thief as a neighbor. Demonstrating his belief in divine guidance and human redemption, Limay forgave the individual and even offered financial assistance.
