Pedro Luis Lazo, a former star pitcher for Cuba and now part of the national baseball team's coaching staff, is grieving the loss of his mother, Emilia Iglesias Moreno. She passed away on Saturday in Pinar del Río, as confirmed by journalist Osbel Benítez Polo from Tele Pinar and Radio Guamá.
Emilia Iglesias Moreno had been battling a severe illness and was in the intensive care unit at the Abel Santamaría Provincial Clinical Surgical Hospital. Lazo is currently in South Korea with the Cuban baseball team, engaging in preparatory matches for the upcoming Premier 12 tournament scheduled for November.
Final Farewell in Pinar del Río
The funeral services for Lazo's mother are set for 4:30 p.m. at the Agapito cemetery in Pinar del Río, following a wake at her home on kilometer 6 of the road to San Juan y Martínez. To support the family, the local branch of the Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (INDER) has arranged a bus for those wishing to join the procession.
“On behalf of the entire sports community and baseball fans, we extend our deepest condolences to Lazo's family and friends,” concluded the announcement.
Another Loss in the Baseball Community
