The musical influence of El Taiger continues to flourish beyond the artist himself, as fans keep his legacy alive on dance floors. This was evident when hundreds of Mexicans, in a bustling nightclub in the capital, danced energetically to his hit track, "El Punto."
Mama Rumba, an iconic nightclub in Mexico City dedicated to Latin and especially Cuban music, experienced a memorable night this Saturday. Patrons danced to the famous tunes of El Taiger and other artists. "As dawn breaks, the enjoyment is unmatched. Such are the nights of dance and revelry at Mama Rumba," the nightclub noted in a social media post.
Néstor Rius, the public relations officer for the bar, shared with CiberCuba that this nightclub, with nearly 33 years of history and a theme centered on Cuban culture, prioritizes music from artists born on the Caribbean island. "All the music heard and danced to here is Cuban," Rius stated. "During the orchestra's breaks, some dancers seize the opportunity to enjoy the current hits played by the DJ," such as El Taiger's songs. He added that while El Chino DJ is Mexican by birth, his heart belongs to Cuba: "He has been responsible for playing Cuban music for over 20 years."
Celebrating Cuban Heritage Through Music
Rius also emphasized that the essence of Mama Rumba—focused on honoring Cuban music and dance—has endured for more than three decades, thanks to the leadership of Luis Tukio Rodríguez, the Cuban-born operational manager who has been at the helm since nearly the club's inception.
According to Rius, one of the nightclub's greatest achievements has been hosting some of the most prominent Cuban orchestras and singers on its stage. Recently, the Cuban ensemble Alexander Abreu y Havana D’ Primera performed at Mama Rumba as part of their tour in Mexico. Additionally, Adalberto Álvarez, famously known as "El Caballero del Son," also graced the Mama Rumba stage a few years ago.
