The Hialeah Police Department announced on Tuesday the arrest of two young Cuban nationals charged with attempted murder following a shooting incident involving two individuals in the Florida city earlier this month, as well as a prior shooting in Miami. Yosmani Yerondy Rodríguez Granados, 23, and Dagoberto González Gómez, 22, were sought for their involvement in a shooting that took place on October 1st at 7:45 p.m. in a parking lot near the Pura Vida condominium on West 16th Avenue in Hialeah.
Additionally, the Miami Police were also in search of Rodríguez for his alleged role in an earlier incident within the city, where one of the same victims from the recent attack was targeted. Consequently, Rodríguez faces charges of two counts of first-degree attempted murder, while González is accused of second-degree attempted murder.
Details of the Incident
According to the Hialeah Police Department's report, as highlighted by Local 10 News, the two victims had left the residential complex and were walking towards their car parked on West 29th Street on the night of October 1st. Once both were inside the vehicle, González, who had been hiding in nearby bushes, alerted Rodríguez. He then approached in his car and, from the driver’s window, extended his arm and fired multiple shots at the victims.
Fortunately, the bullets struck the front hood of the car, and the victims emerged unharmed. Rodríguez and González fled the scene immediately after the attack. The identities of the victims remain undisclosed by the authorities. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras and witnessed by bystanders. These CCTV images, along with witness testimonies and cell phone geolocation data, enabled Hialeah Police to identify the suspects.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Rodríguez was apprehended on Monday night without resistance, and officers reported that he was carrying a firearm in his pocket at the time of his arrest. He declined to provide a statement to investigators. However, officers noted that Rodríguez might be linked to the previous shooting in Miami, where one of the same victims had been attacked. The authorities have not disclosed further details about this earlier incident.
The police departments of Hialeah and Miami are working together to investigate both cases, aiming to determine whether they are connected by a common motive and if Rodríguez is involved in other similar occurrences in the area. Rodríguez appeared in court on Tuesday, as reported by AméricaTeVe, facing charges including two counts of first-degree attempted murder with a lethal weapon, firing a deadly projectile, and discharging a firearm from a vehicle. Meanwhile, González is charged with second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon. Both men are also detained on immigration-related grounds.
As of Tuesday, the two Cuban men remain detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK) in Miami-Dade County.
