The well-known outlet chain, Conn's Home Plus, which specializes in home products, has announced it will close all 170 of its locations across the United States by December 31, 2024. This decision comes after 130 years of operation and is a result of severe financial struggles. The company filed for bankruptcy last July, with debts exceeding $5 million, as reported by Retail Dive.

In an effort to clear out inventory as part of the shutdown, Conn's Home Plus is offering significant discounts ranging from 80% to 90% on a wide array of products until October 31, 2024. This sale has attracted many customers eager to purchase items like furniture, appliances, and electronics at unprecedented prices.

Impact on Florida and Beyond

In Florida, Conn's operates seven stores in locations such as Pinellas Park, Lakeland, Ocala, Kissimmee, and Orlando. The chain has received excellent reviews for not only the quality of its furniture and appliances but also the efficiency of its merchandise reception and distribution.

Headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas, Conn's Home Plus has a significant presence in the state with 74 stores. Unfortunately, the closure will result in the layoff of over 4,000 employees across 15 states. An employee from the Capital Plaza store in Austin explained that this location, like others, will remain open until its inventory is depleted, offering discounts between 40% and 60% on items such as rugs, massage chairs, and stools.

Assistance for Customers

For customers who have purchased financed or warranted items from Conn's, the company has set up a FAQ section on its website, providing detailed guidance on how to manage these situations.

This closure adds to the growing list of companies in the United States that have turned to bankruptcy protection in 2024 to address financial difficulties. However, many have not been able to recover and have permanently closed their doors.
