A Cuban man lost his life in Colón, a town in Matanzas province, after falling victim to a brutal assault aimed at stealing his electric scooter, cash, and jewelry. The victim, known as Ricardo García or "Ñiquiñaca," was viciously beaten and stabbed in the early hours of October 28.
The assailants made off with his scooter, money, a gold chain, and bracelets. According to a digital creator known on social media as "Díaz Canel Sin Gao," who shared a WhatsApp message from someone close to the victim, the stab wounds severely damaged García's ribs and colon.
He was admitted to the intensive care unit of the "Mario Muñoz Monroy" municipal hospital in Colón, where he was intubated but unfortunately could not overcome the critical injuries he sustained. Despite his struggle, Ricardo García ultimately succumbed to the severity of his wounds.
Community Outcry for Justice
On Facebook, Omar Sánchez, another Colón resident, expressed frustration that even hours after the assault, the police had not apprehended those responsible for the shocking attack, which has deeply affected the local community.
"The people of Colón, family, and friends are waiting for the police to act. Anyone with information that could help solve this crime can contact me privately. We demand justice and an exemplary death penalty for the perpetrators of this horrendous crime," Sánchez stated while García was still fighting for his life.
After García's passing, Sánchez shared another post demanding justice for "an excellent human being," emphasizing the need for severe punishment for such acts of cruelty.
Escalating Violence in Cuba
Comments from friends, neighbors, and acquaintances of Ricardo García, who are devastated by his death, have flooded various online forums where the news has spread. Meanwhile, other Cubans express concern over the escalating violence across the island, where crimes are becoming increasingly frequent.
As of the closure of this report, no official information has been released regarding the case, which has plunged another Cuban family into mourning.
