Emergency crews in Miami Beach swiftly reacted to a blaze that erupted on Tuesday afternoon, spreading from a dumpster to the 12-story Executive building on Collins Avenue. According to Local 10, the fire began when a burning object fell through the building's trash chute into a street-level dumpster, leading to a fire that climbed up the structure, severely damaging a sidewall.
Firefighters responded to the scene at 4925 Collins Ave. shortly after 1:00 p.m., as recorded in dispatch logs. Constructed in 1959, the Mid-Beach building houses over 100 units, as noted by real estate websites. Social media posts, particularly on Instagram, displayed the fire's rapid spread along the side of the building, with firefighters battling flames in two outdoor dumpsters.
“Currently, the building is undergoing roof renovations,” a spokesperson for the Miami Beach Fire Department stated. The official further explained, “A heated item dropped down the chute, igniting the dumpster. Since it was made of plastic, this resulted in burns along the building's exterior.”
As a safety measure, part of Collins Avenue was temporarily closed while firefighters managed the situation.
