A semi-truck collided with a bridge in the province of Sancti Spíritus, causing the container it was carrying to become severely deformed and fall onto the road. This incident was highlighted in the Facebook group "ACCIDENTES BUSES & CAMIONES por más experiencia y menos víctimas!" by user Hander Rodríguez del Río. He speculated that the driver might be inexperienced on this route, as he overlooked the detour meant for trucks before reaching the bridge.
The bridge, located in the municipality of Jatibonico, is marked with a height limit of four meters, according to road signs. However, several Cuban drivers commented on the post, claiming that the clearance has decreased due to additional layers of asphalt over time.
Recurring Bridge Collisions Raise Concerns
In a similar incident last August, the rear containers of a cargo semi-truck lost their roofs after hitting the Calabazar Bridge in Havana. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The Howo brand truck misjudged the bridge's height, resulting in a collapsed roof that ended up next to a parked horse-drawn cart.
Last year, another collision in Sancti Spíritus left a truck's container severely damaged after striking a bridge, highlighting a troubling pattern of such accidents in the area. These incidents continue to raise safety concerns, particularly about the adequacy of signage and road maintenance.
