On Thursday, the Cuban non-governmental organization Aniplant, dedicated to the safeguarding of plants and animals, unveiled a new partnership on social media with the small enterprise Frankahiros. This collaboration aims to assist activists by crafting wooden pet cabins.
According to a Facebook post by Aniplant, Frankahiros—a company specializing in civil construction and new project assembly—has pledged to support the creation of these wooden shelters for pets. These cabins will be distributed via Aniplant to animal shelters and protectors across the country.
Environmental Responsibility and Community Engagement
Aniplant further elaborated that the small enterprise will not only provide donations but will also engage in responsible tree cutting, ensuring quality and safety appropriate to each species. Additionally, Frankahiros plans to organize workshops and competitions to promote tree care and environmental protection.
"It's incredibly inspiring to have companies, even small ones, striving to grow while contributing to making the world a better place for plants and animals," the NGO stated, expressing their gratitude and excitement about the new alliance.
Challenges Faced by Animal Activists in a Struggling Economy
Animal protectors in Cuba are grappling with numerous challenges amid the country's most severe economic crisis in decades, particularly due to food shortages. The conditions in which they care for animals are often difficult, as they are overwhelmed by the sheer number of dogs and cats they look after. Therefore, partnerships like this one are especially valuable.
Moreover, in recent years, animal shelters in Cuba have reported a significant rise in the number of abandoned dogs and cats. This increase is attributed to the massive population exodus and the worsening economic crisis on the island.
Such circumstances have compelled animal activists to seek solutions and strive to boost adoption rates, as highlighted by a recent report from the Associated Press.
