Flor de Cuba Faces Backlash Again for Controversial Social Media Video

Friday, November 1, 2024 by Sofia Valdez

Once more, Flor de Cuba, the Cuban influencer, finds herself at the center of social media criticism. Recently, she shared a video on Instagram that led several followers to label her as vulgar. In her post, she remarked, "It always happens. The holiest mothers have devilish children, and the most devilish mothers have saintly children," accompanying a video where she can be seen dancing provocatively while her son reads the Bible.

The lyrics of the song Flor chose, "Delincuente" by Tokischa, Anuel AA, and Ñengo Flow, stirred up controversy as they are not suitable for children or sensitive ears. Comments poured in: "Be careful with what you post, especially when involving the Bible, something so sacred"; "That music is dreadful in front of a child"; "You shouldn't question that; there's still a long way to go"; "Those lyrics are too vulgar"; "I'm unfollowing Flor de Cuba for such vulgar and low-class content"; "May God have mercy on you—you're blind to see your child studying the holy scriptures"; "How far you've gone for a few bucks"; "Those horrible lyrics, Flor. Remember, your children can access your content, and they are evidently raised on the right path. I don't think you need to post such things; you are an excellent person and mother," commented some users.

Cuban Influencer's Response to Criticism

Facing the backlash, the influencer responded, clarifying the intent behind her video: "Message from the Instagram hurt committee: The video is a social satire about how moralistic parents often have more liberal children and vice versa. The video is not intended to offend anyone. Remember, this app is for entertainment. If you seek puritan content, you might want to head to the nearest church (although some of the most atrocious perversions occur there) or visit the library."

She further added, "As an interesting fact, my son is a chess champion, creates PC applications, builds servers, reads the Bible, studies quantum physics, listens to rock and electronic music, and he is a Christian. Therefore, his opinion on this matter is irrelevant because virtual life is one thing, and reality is another."
