As of Sunday, reservoirs in Guantánamo province are filled to 47.74% capacity, holding 163,744 hectometer cubes of water. This situation is likely to change soon, as heavy rains are forecasted due to the impact of a trough in the eastern region. Journalist Miguel Reyes shared via Facebook that Los Asientos Dam is at its maximum capacity, storing 17.88 hectometer cubes and naturally releasing 40.5 hectometer cubes through a spillway trench.

The Faustino Pérez reservoir is currently at 93.33% of its total capacity, containing 24,045 hectometer cubes out of a possible 26. Meanwhile, Pozo Azul Dam is 92.99% full, with 13.75 hectometer cubes of its 14.8 total. Clotilde Dam stands at 72.46% capacity, with 4.42 hectometer cubes out of 6.1, and Jaibo Dam is at 49.36%, holding 59.35 hectometer cubes from a total of 160. Finally, Reyes reported that La Yaya reservoir is at only 26.26% capacity, containing 41.94 hectometer cubes out of 160. However, these levels are expected to rise in the coming hours.

The Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) issued a warning on Sunday about a trough at the lower levels of the troposphere over the Dominican Republic, causing showers and thunderstorms in Cuba's eastern region. According to a note published on Facebook by the Forecast Center, the provinces most affected by the rain include Guantánamo, with accumulations of 57.8 millimeters in Jamal and 63.7 millimeters in Palenque de Yateras. Additionally, morning rains were reported in Camagüey province.

INSMET emphasized that this weather system will continue to bring rainfall, mainly to the northern coast and Guantánamo, throughout Sunday. In response to the heavy rains impacting eastern Cuba, the National Civil Defense Staff declared an Informative Phase across the entire region on Saturday. Authorities also ordered the mass evacuation of residents from San Antonio del Sur to the city of Guantánamo starting Saturday.

On Friday, the INSMET released an Early Alert Notice due to favorable atmospheric and oceanic conditions for the formation of a low-pressure area in the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, which could affect the island in the coming days.
