The ferry service across Havana Bay, specifically the Regla ferry, has been temporarily suspended due to worsening weather conditions, as reported by the Provincial Transportation Company of Havana. The state-run entity issued a statement explaining that the decision was made at 5:40 PM on Saturday, November 2nd, citing "the current adverse weather conditions affecting navigation in Havana Bay." The suspension will remain in effect until the weather allows for safe resumption.
In light of the service halt, the company has urged residents to rely on bus transportation as an alternative. The Regla ferry is one of the oldest passenger transport methods in the Cuban capital.
Earlier in the week, on Thursday, the ferry was also temporarily withdrawn from service due to "strong winds affecting Havana Bay," although it resumed operations the following day. At the start of the month, the ferry service was suspended for two days because of meteorological effects linked to Hurricane Milton as it passed near the western part of the country.
Over the past two years, the ferry service across Havana Bay has faced numerous disruptions, largely due to technical failures, necessary maintenance work, bay pollution, and even structural concerns about the Regla docking station. These ongoing issues have inconvenienced passengers who regularly depend on this route to travel between Regla, Casablanca, and Old Havana.
