On Sunday afternoon, a traffic accident occurred on Escario Street, right in the heart of Santiago de Cuba, resulting in injuries to two individuals, as reported on social media. Reports from the scene shared by journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on Facebook indicated that witnesses saw the most severely injured driver lying on the ground for about 10 minutes, appearing unconscious. However, after this period, he began to regain movement and was assisted by bystanders who helped him to his feet and transported him to a hospital.
According to eyewitness accounts, the driver of the truck involved attempted to flee the scene, but pedestrians managed to prevent him from leaving. It was noted that the vehicle belongs to the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and is assigned to the Antilla unit, although it is currently operating at the Moncada Cement Factory.
Recent Traffic Incidents Highlight Safety Concerns
In another tragic incident, an elderly person lost their life on Friday in Camagüey when a bicycle they were riding was struck by a truck. This fatal accident took place on a street in the Minas municipality. Earlier in mid-August, a similar incident in Bayamo resulted in the death of cyclist Pablo Estrada, who was hit by a truck on Vicente Quesada Street and died instantly from the impact.
Furthermore, in July, a woman sustained severe injuries while cycling after being hit by a tourist vehicle on the Bayamo-Manzanillo road. She was rushed to a hospital in Bayamo, where her condition was reported as critical.
