A Snake in Miami Beach: Adding to the City's Wild Surprises

Monday, November 4, 2024 by Henry Cruz

Miami's beaches are no strangers to astonishing events. The sandy shores have been known to reveal everything from packages of cocaine to cats that surprisingly enjoy the salty sea. However, what a beachgoer's camera captured and was shared by the incident-focused site Only in Dade was the missing piece in making Miami Beach an even more "exotic" destination.

This time, it was a rat snake that was spotted slithering across the sand. While these snakes are not harmful to humans, they certainly added an unexpected twist to the beach scene. According to Wikipedia, reptile enthusiasts often keep rat snakes as pets. Sadly, these creatures, particularly those native to the eastern regions of North America, are facing changes in behavior due to global warming and rising temperatures.

Unexpected Beach Visitors

Earlier in September, another surprising visitor appeared along Miami Beach's shoreline, in front of the Setai Hotel. A shark made its presence known, startling swimmers who quickly exited the water. The scene was captured in a video posted by the Instagram account Only in Dade, highlighting how the shark's tranquil swim near the shore drew both curiosity and concern from social media users.

While shark sightings are relatively common and part of the typical landscape along Florida's coast, the appearance of a snake added a new layer of intrigue. It seems Miami Beach is always ready to surprise its visitors with something unexpected.
