Recently, the story of "Lori," a Canadian tourist, has gone viral on the Facebook group Cardenenses. She claims to have lent $5,000 to her Cuban boyfriend so he could travel and join her. However, Lori says she has lost contact with him and is now seeking help to find him.
In her posts on the group, Lori shares details about her relationship, identifying her boyfriend as "Duviesky." She mentions that they met in 2020 and even shared photos of them together. "Hello, my name is Lori, I'm from Canada. I really like Cuba and met a very nice Cuban guy in 2020. My guy, Duviesky, wanted to travel to America and Canada with me. I borrowed $5,000 from my RBC bank in Canada to give him on September 2, 2024, and I haven't heard from him. Please help me find Duviesky," she wrote in her first post.
After receiving a flood of comments and mockery in various tones, Lori expressed regret over the reactions in a follow-up post. She explained that her intention was to publicize the issue in hopes of finding her "guy," but instead encountered many Cubans who seemed to find amusement in her potential scam.
"Now, in Canada, I'm paying a lot of money to my bank and have two jobs to cover the costs. It's not a joke and I can prove it," she stated. In a third message, Lori shared screenshots of numerous friend requests she received from people in Cárdenas after her story went public. "I'm not looking for other guys, please don't send messages," she clarified.
In her latest post, Lori recounted staying with her boyfriend's family in Cuba in 2020 and mentioned contracting "lice, crabs, and insects," which led her to shave all her hair. Although the truth of the story remains uncertain, many have found Lori and Duviesky's tale to be a source of humor.
Some have likened the story to a recent online drama in Cuba, commenting, "Lázaro and Yarelis 2," while others joked, "Your guy is on his way to Nicaragua to cross into the U.S., you're not seeing him again"; "Your guy's already at the volcanoes," poking fun at Lori's messages that mix Spanish and English with grammatical errors.
The latest twist in the saga comes from a post by someone named "Duviesky Rodríguez" in the group, who insists he is not involved in the story. His appearance does not match the original photos with Lori and might be a fabricated profile to add fuel to the fire. "Good evening, let me tell you something. First, I don't want any trouble with me or my family. You don't know me. I'm a professional masseur, that's my job, and I don't need to scam anyone. I live off my work, and if anyone wants a massage, they can contact me. I'm done with you all for today," the supposed Duviesky wrote.
"This is why I pay for the internet," quipped a Cuban woman following the saga and the flood of comments it has generated. In a more somber tone, another user remarked, "This is to distract us from the hunger we're facing and to forget another hurricane is on the way."
As of now, there are no further updates on the tale of Lori, the alleged Canadian woman seeking her Duviesky through social media.
