Two young Cuban men tragically lost their lives following a multi-vehicle crash that resulted in their car catching fire on a northeast Houston highway in Texas on Saturday night. The devastating incident has left their families, friends, and community in deep sorrow.
Identified as Pedro Mesa and Alfredo Ernesto Peña Ortiz, the victims hailed from Granma province, as reported by the Facebook group "Somos de Campechuela." The details were shared by user Mike Torns, who included an official report of the collision. The accident occurred on Wallisville Road, near Greens Bayou and Highway 90, on Saturday, November 2nd, around 7:30 p.m., involving four vehicles.
According to reports, the two Cuban men were inside a 2007 gray Honda Accord. They became trapped when the car ignited after the collision. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Details of the Tragic Collision
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) released a statement indicating the driver of the gray Honda Accord, whose identity remains undisclosed, was traveling eastbound in the first lane of Wallisville Road. The vehicle veered off course, crossing into the center line dividing the east and west lanes.
As the Honda crossed the dividing line, it collided with a westbound Ram 1500, causing the Honda to spin out of control. A Chrysler Pacifica driver attempted to avoid the spinning vehicle but was struck by the Honda, which subsequently hit a Hyundai Sonata.
The Honda erupted in flames, and its occupants, the two Cuban men, were unable to escape in time, perishing instantly.

The driver of the Hyundai Sonata, Treveon Battist, was immediately taken to Ben Taub Hospital with signs of alcohol intoxication. The report also mentioned he had a firearm in his possession. The other two drivers involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to police.
