Cuban journalist Javier Díaz recently took to social media to emphasize the significance of participating in the United States elections, while also delivering a strong message about the situation in Cuba. "I'm Cuban, I'm 36 years old, and for the first time in my life, I'm voting for a president in an election. I hope you understand the message," Díaz wrote on his Facebook profile.

The Urgency of Awareness

Díaz didn't hold back in criticizing those who turn a blind eye to Cuba's reality, stating, "Anyone who ignores the situation in Cuba is simply complicit with the dictatorship." He expressed his deep commitment to his profession and his duty to expose the Cuban regime, which he views as lacking in democracy.

A New Chapter in Democracy

After recently taking over as a news anchor at Univisión, replacing Mario Vallejo, Díaz shared his overwhelming excitement last August about voting for the first time in democratic elections—a right he never had while living in Cuba. In a heartfelt Facebook post, he celebrated his participation in Miami's local elections, underscoring the significance of this democratic act. "What a thrill! I'm 36 years old, and it's the first time I can vote in a country's elections," Díaz wrote, highlighting how, for those who have lived under a dictatorship like Cuba's, the concept of voting for a president or engaging in an authentic electoral process is non-existent.

Reflecting on Freedom

In another poignant reflection, the young Cuban journalist shared insights on what freedom truly means, contrasting his life before and after leaving the Caribbean nation. On Facebook, Díaz posted a photo of the Parthenon in Greece, articulating that a genuine understanding of living in freedom comes only when one can experience life beyond the constraints imposed by the Cuban regime.
