A car battery explosion inside a home at the intersection of Trinidad and Reloj streets in Santiago de Cuba prompted a swift response from firefighters, who managed to control the blaze without any injuries reported. This incident was reported by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on his Facebook account. In the comments section, multiple users confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries in this event.
The exact cause of the explosion remains unknown. While this incident involved a vehicle, similar situations more frequently involve electric scooters. Back in September, a fire resulting from an electric scooter explosion occurred in the Lawton neighborhood of Havana, completely destroying a workshop and part of a residence.
Frequent Fires from Electric Scooters
The incident took place around 6:35 p.m. in an area located at 18 Street between Dolores and Concepción, within the Consejo Popular Vista Alegre. Fires caused by electric scooters have led to significant property and resource losses across the country. Notably, in Santa Clara, an explosion of an electric scooter battery while charging engulfed a garage in flames within minutes, leaving a Lada car charred.
These explosions can happen anywhere and are not limited to times when the scooters are charging. For example, an electric scooter's battery exploded while it was parked near the intersection of 23rd and 26th streets in the El Vedado neighborhood of Havana.
Recurring Incidents Across Cuba
In another incident in Santiago de Cuba, the explosion of an electric scooter caused a fire inside a home. Similarly, residents of a house in Matanzas faced a comparable situation. These recurring explosions highlight the persistent risks associated with electric scooters in Cuba.
